Looking for a cooking enthusiast.
We host women’s gatherings, primarily, daylong workshops and weekend retreats. They take place at Pastime Farm — our small, organic hobby farm in the East Bay. Meals are provided — typically on our back porch (just outside the kitchen).
We work with a wonderful chef team who specialize in baked goods and lunches. Our dinner chefs, however, have retired after 7 years of events together (including our wedding!). Ideally, we will have three sets of providers so that there is flexibility in scheduling.
Events
Events are vegetarian, buffet-style, and include 10-12 women. The kitchen has ample workspace, professional-grade appliances, and all necessary food service equipment. We provide all linens, glasses, mugs, dishes, utensils, cake risers, serving platters, and so forth. We also provide all beverages and everything for tea/coffee service.
There are currently two types of catered events: Sunday workshops and weekend retreats. We’ll reach out with booking dates as soon as the event is scheduled (at least 4-6 weeks notice). Below, you can find a general sense of our event types and needs:
Sunday Workshops: Vegetarian lunch. 10-12 women. Lunch is served at approximately 12:30p. We’re finished eating by 2:00p.
Weekend Retreats: Vegetarian breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner. 10-12 women. For a three-day retreat, meals include late afternoon charcuterie board and dinner on Friday; continental breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday; and brunch on Sunday.
Our Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for someone who cares about: Using local, organic, whole foods, never processed.
Cooking from scratch. Creating delicious vegetarian dishes. Using olive oil, coconut oil, butter, or ghee. (The retreat leader, Kelly, is severely allergic to rapeseed/canola oil as well as synthetic fragrances in perfume and laundry detergents.) Basically… we’re looking for someone who’s all-natural in their cooking as well as their body products.
Location:
Caterers must live near and/or be willing to travel to Sunol (10 minutes from Pleasanton, Fremont, Livermore). If you want to get a sense of the drive time, we’re located near the Little Brown Church in Sunol.
You will need to:
Provide the food — all meals are vegetarian and buffet-style. Do the menu planning, shopping, and food preparation. Consider food allergies (i.e. canola oil, artificial food dye) and any other sensitivities reported by guests (ahead of time). Email us your suggested menu so that we can provide feedback if necessary. Drive to/from Sunol (in the East Bay, near Pleasanton). Clean up after each meal (load the dishwasher, hand wash any large serving pieces, and tidy the kitchen). We provide everything else (tea/coffee service, beverages, serving ware, dishes, glasses, utensils, cake risers, linens, flowers, candles, and so forth). You’re welcome to do the final preparation in the kitchen.
You don’t need to:
Be professionally trained. Be available for every event. Provide the linens, dishes, utensils, food service equipment, etcetera.
Please note:
Our budget is $300-600 per meal (i.e. breakfast, lunch, or dinner) including any additional fees or gratuity. You are welcome to bid for one meal (e.g., Friday dinner only), for multiple meals that weekend (e.g., Friday and Saturday dinners), or for multiple meals in a single day (e.g., lunch and dinner on Saturday). Let us know what works best for you. (We want this to be enjoyable and sustainable for everyone involved.)
Further job-scope details:
Understand what entails providing a complete, hearty vegetarian menu.
Create appealing options for dietary restrictions (if necessary — this is rare).
Provide a menu that includes several dishes (e.g., soup for winter, other main/sides, dessert).
Email us your ideas for a menu (so that we might provide feedback with consideration to other meals being prepared).
Email us your finalized menu a few days ahead of time (so that we can inform the guests).
Purchase ingredients, cook, prep.
Set up the buffet-style service (on the kitchen island).
Clean up after the 60- to 90-minute meal is completed (wash serving dishes, load dishwasher, tidy kitchen).
Interested?
Email office@kellyminor.com with a bid and a sample menu for a vegetarian, buffet-style meal for 10 women. (You provide the food, set up, and clean up. We provide the dishes, utensils, etc.) Depending on your speciality, availability, and/or preference, please include a sample menu for each meal type (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Also, please share several photos of your cooking, a link to your website, and/or references. Also, feel free to reach out with any questions of suggestions.
